Welcome to The NYC_86.

We're a secret community of 86 world-class software developers in NYC who are:

- currently employed at a large top tech co
- considering leaving in the next year
- open to launching their own company or joining an early, venture-backed startup

If this sounds like you...we might be just who you're looking for.

About The NYC_86.

You're here because you were invited. There's no application. And it's kept small by design.

Everything we do is to help your next career move be the right one.

As one of the eighty-six, you get:

- A physical space to hack on side projects with 85 other top engineers + potential collaborators on nights & weekends
- Feedback, product teardowns, and warm VC intros if you're building something new
- Guaranteed interviews for vetted, not-yet-published roles at early-stage startups (we're not recruiters, but we often "overhear" things from VC friends)
- Highly-curated connections to top sales & operations folks, advisors, and mentors if you need them
- Invite-only dinners, drinks, and small events with other members of the NYC_86
- A secret community that deeply cares about you doing dope shit

A year is the longest anyone can be a member of the NYC_86.We actually hope you leave sooner...meaning that you quit to build a company, joined an amazing early-stage team, or figured out this isn't for you. For someone new to join, someone else must go.

FAQ

Q: What does this cost? Is there a catch?
A: It's free for now. And free forever for founding members. We may explore non-shitty ways to make money from this in the future, but for now we're entirely focused on building a strong, valuable secret community members love.

Q: If I make something in the NYC_86 and it takes off, do you own any of it?
A: Nope, you own everything you make here.

Q: How secret is this this?
A: Very. We never break the trust. Part of being a member of the NYC_86 is respecting the privacy of others. If confidentiality is ever broken or compromised, membership is immediately revoked.

Q: I have another question...
A: Email us. hi@nyc86.org

It's not free, but we're committed to delivering far more than $86 in value each month. This is also because we don't seek sponsors, since we want to be accountable to no one except you.

ps: if you ever feel it's no longer worth it, you can bow out at any time, and we'll refund 100% of the $86 for that month.--Alex is the Director of Business Operations at Parsley Health, and was an early employee at Spreemo, where he helped grow it from 40 to 200 employees at acquisition.Chukwudi is Chief of Staff at the Venture Out accelerator, the Youth Editor at LinkedIn, and works with Disruptor.vc.
